14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible

Excerpt by Jillian Gilbert

Director of Operations

Recently I watched “14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible” on Netflix. I wasn’t familiar with this documentary prior to pressing play, so I’ll give you a brief overview in case you’re in the same boat. “14 Peaks” chronicles Nepalese mountaineer Nirmal Purja and his team as they attempted to climb the 14 highest peaks in the world in just 7 months, much faster than anyone else previously. The conditions Purja faces, the obstacles he overcomes to pursue his goal, and the people he makes time to help along the way were what made this documentary so inspiring.

“Sometimes the idea that you come up with may seem impossible for the rest of the world, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for you.”

Big Fish

Excerpt by Jasmine Cormier

Communications and Marketing Manager

Big Fish” is an interesting movie for sure, but it has many heartfelt moments that make you ponder on what matters most in life. The movie is centered on the father and his elaborate tales of his life as his son tries to figure out facts from fiction to understand who his dad really was. As someone who has lost a loved one, a person’s idiosyncrasies often get under our skin but that is what we end up missing the most when they are gone. The movie also highlights having childlike wonder and imagination which reminds me to not take life so seriously and enjoy the stories for what they are.

127 Hours

Excerpt by Trent Connor

Relationship Manager

I recently watched the movie “127 Hours” and was inspired in a couple of ways. The first thing that really impressed me was the strength of the human survival instinct. Aron Ralston (the main character) did his best to free himself from an 800-pound rock but when he knew it was no use, he did what he had to do to survive and cut his arm off with a dull pocketknife. That did not discourage Ralston, who has continued to climb some of the tallest mountains in the world after his accident.
